The Thomas Jefferson Intermediate School, Jefferson School, is being repurposed into new office and collaboration spaces for the Detroit Community. Originally constructed in 1922 and registered on the National Registry of Historic Places, the 120,000+ three-story building stands prominently east of the Lodge Freeway at Selden Street. Invest Detroit hired Oliver / Hatcher Construction to preserve the historic charm of the building while modernizing the amenities. The new design incorporates the unique details by reusing the antique doors, matching the original windows, preserving the gymnasium and library, and restoring the intricate masonry around the facades of the building. Once completed, the new space will include offices, conference rooms, an event center, a common cafetorium, courtyards, and exterior gathering places.
